 | AusCAP conducted Angelflight mission M2172 to Armidale on Tuesday 11-September. Squadron Leader Steve Penfold and Co-pilot Dominique Estival transported a 5-year old boy and his mother home from treatment in Sydney. The young patient suffers Jacobsen's Syndrome and other complications and is wheelchair bound. The flight was conducted in a Partenavia twin engine aircraft under Instrument flight Rules (IFR) out of Bansktown via Richmond, departing at 12.55pm. Enroute conditions at 7 to 8000ft included regular cloud encounters (IMC). Armidale airport was subject to strong North Westerly winds gusting over 30kts, providing a bumpy approach. Our arrival at 2.40pm was into the grass strip runway 27, which was in excellent condition. | The weather conditions did not phase our young passenger, who slept most of the flight and awoke after landing to a rather cold and blustery Armidale. The return leg with 2 POB was uneventful apart form a diversion around the Singleton restricted airspace R532 which was active at the time.
AusCAP would like to thank Angelflight and all who contributed to this successful mission. Pilots who are interested in conducting Angelflights through AusCAP should contact Squadron Leader Steve Penfold:
