A successful joint exercise with the Bushwalker Wilderness Rescue Squad (www.bwrs.org.au) was conducted on Saturday 5-May-07. The exercise involved three aircraft conducting sorties in the Mt Mcquoid area north of Sydney. One of these flights was conducted at night in the Partenavia. BWRS Ground crews were randomly positioned within a small search area and practised ground to air signalling techniques to attract the atention of the search aircraft overhead. Whilst the exercise presented several challenges, it succesfully consolidated the CRM and observer training theory that had been conducted by AusCAP leading up to the event. A review and full debrief of all aspects of the exercise will be undertaken, on a date to be set soon, at HQ. We expect some of the BWRS ground team will also attend, so it will be good to catch up and compare notes! Thanks to all involved, both in the air and on the ground. Our next flying days are planned for 2-Jun and 23-Jun. Standby for details.
